so we’re about 5 weeks away from the long weekend shoot for Love Story and we’re in full pre-production mode. storyboards are first and considering the script has 35 quick scenes, most with more than one separate setup, there will be a large number of actual storyboards.

boards 1

i’m starting with simple sketches, then dropping the crappily-drawn figures from the sketches into photos of the actual locations, with angles as close to what we’ll actually want to shoot as i can arrange. from there, i’ll take the first round of storyboards and meet with the director of photography, adrian ursu – once he’s had a chance to look them over – and then make revisions based upon his notes.

boards 2

then once the notes have been applied, i’ll take the second round of boards to both the DP and the editor – whom i can’t at this moment mention by name as we haven’t finalized with him yet. from there, i’ll take the second round of notes and apply them to the storyboards.

boards 3

my general goal is to have the shots, setups and everything about them so well decided ahead of time that we don’t waste even a milli-second trying to figure out what shot to go to next or to have to communicate what is going on and when. that way, every single second will be spent on making each shot look that much more beautiful and in getting the performances we want.

this is gonna be fun.
